چکیده

Abstract Background N , -Diethyl-3-methylbenzamide (DEET) topical mosquito repellents are effective personal protection tools. However, DEET-based tend to have low consumer acceptability because they cosmetically unappealing. More attractive formulations needed encourage regular user compliance. This study evaluated the protective efficacy and duration of a new repellent ointment containing 15% DEET, MAÏA ® compared 20% DEET in ethanol using malaria dengue vectors Bagamoyo Tanzania. Methods Fully balanced 3 × Latin square design studies were conducted large semi-field chambers laboratory strains Anopheles gambiae sensu stricto arabiensis Aedes aegypti. Human volunteers applied either ointment, or their lower limbs 6 h before start tests. Approximately 100 mosquitoes per strain replicate released inside each chamber, with 25 at intervals during collection period maintain adequate biting pressure throughout test. Volunteers recaptured landing on for over 12-h post-application repellents. Data analysis was mixed-effects logistic regression. Results The not statistically different strains: 95.9% vs. 97.4% against An. (OR = 1.53 [95% CI 0.93–2.51] p 0.091); 96.8% vs 97.2% 1.08 0.66–1.77] 0.757); 93.1% 94.6% Ae. aegypti 0.76 0.20–2.80] 0.675). Average complete time (CPT) minutes that similar 571.6 min (95% 558.3–584.8) 575.0 562.1–587.9) ; 585.6 571.4–599.8) 580.9 571.1–590.7) 444.1 401.8–486.5) 436.9 405.2–468.5) Conclusions provides 9 both 7 (in ethanol). can be recommended as tool prevention outdoor tropical locations where majority people spend an ample going bed.

Evaluation of the sensitivity of Aedes aegypti and Anopheles gambiae complex mosquitoes to two insect repellents: DEET and KBR 3023.

We conducted laboratory tests to assess the sensitivity to the insect repellent 1-piperidinecarboxylic acid, 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)-, 1-methylpropylester (known as KBR 3023 or Picaridin, trade name Bayrepel) of West African strains of the yellow fever mosquito Aedes aegypti and of malaria vectors of the Anopheles gambiae complex, in comparison with the standard repellent N,N-diethyl-3-methyl-benzam...

Repellent Activity of TRIG (N-N Diethyl Benzamide) against Man-Biting Mosquitoes

A study was conducted to assess efficacy of a new repellent brand TRIG (15% N-N Diethyl Benzamide) when compared to DEET (20% N-N Methyl Toluamide). The repellents were tested in laboratory and field. In the laboratory, the repellence was tested on human volunteers, by exposing their repellent-treated arms on starved mosquitoes in cages for 3 minutes at hourly intervals, while counting the land...

Antibody response against saliva antigens of Anopheles gambiae and Aedes aegypti in travellers in tropical Africa.

Exposure to vectors of infectious diseases has been associated with antibody responses against salivary antigens of arthropods among people living in endemic areas. This immune response has been proposed as a surrogate marker of exposure to vectors appropriate for evaluating the protective efficacy of antivectorial devices. The existence and potential use of such antibody responses in traveller...

Spatial and habitat distribution of Anopheles gambiae and Anopheles arabiensis (Diptera: Culicidae) in Banambani village, Mali.

We studied the larval distribution and composition of Anopheles arabiensis Patton, An. gambiae s.s. Giles, and its forms, among local habitats; and their association with the adults between these habitats in Banambani village, Mali during the mid-rainy seasons of 1997-1999. For species and form identification we used polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and PCR-restriction fragment-length polymorphi...

Anopheles gambiae and Anopheles arabiensis population densities and infectivity in Kopere village, Western Kenya.

INTRODUCTION This study was conducted in a sugar belt region of western Kenya interfacing epidemic and endemic malaria transmission. We investigated Anopheles gambiae sensu stricto (ss) and Anopheles arabiensis species compositions and densities, human host choice, and infectivity. METHODOLOGY Mosquitoes were captured using pyrethrum spray catch technique and first identified based on morphol...
